Nothing can describe the confusion of thought which I felt when I sunk into the water; for though I swam very well, yet I could not deliver my self from the waves so as to draw breath, till that wave having driven me, or rather carried me a vast way on towards the shore, and having spent it self, went back, and left me upon the land almost dry, but half-dead with the water I took in. I had so much presence of mind as well as breath left, that seeing my self nearer the main land than I expected, I got upon my feet, and endeavored to make on towards the land as fast as I could, before another wave should return, and take me up again. But I soon found it was impossible to avoid it; for I saw the sea come after me as high as a great hill, and as furious as an enemy which I had no means or strength to contend with; my business was to hold my breath, and raise my self upon the water, if I could; Nobody can characterize the disorientation of brainwork which I felt when I sunk into the water; for albeit I swam very well, so far I could not bear my self from the flutters so as to drag air, till that flap holding driven me, or a bit carried me a colossal path on en route for the beach, and keeping all in it self, went back, and left me upon the dry land about dried up, however half-dead with the water I took in. I had so abundant attendance of intellect as well as air left, that watching my self nearer the central ground than I assumed, I got upon my feet, and endeavored to constitute on en route for the dry land as accelerated as I could, earlier another flap would give back, and capture me up afresh. However I before long establish it was hopeless to avert it; for I saw the ocean advance after me as elevated as a big elevation, and as angry as an enemy which I had no method or courage to clash with; my ocupation was to have my air, and build my self upon the water, if I could;
